FA Series

A fiber array (FA) is a fiber assembly consisting of multiple optical fibers arranged at a specific pitch (typically 127 μm or 250 μm) and precisely fixed to a V-Groove substrate. Our process capabilities allow us to process FAs with 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 32, and 36 channels.

Description

A fiber array (FA) is a fiber assembly consisting of multiple optical fibers arranged at a specific pitch (typically 127 μm or 250 μm) and precisely fixed to a V-Groove substrate. We have the capability to process 2-, 4-, 8-, 12-, 16-, 32-, and 36-channel FAs. Material and process requirements are as follows:

V-Groove Substrate:

Usually a quartz or silicon substrate is used, with V-grooves formed by precision etching.

The width and depth of each groove must match the outer diameter of the optical fiber (typically 125 μm).

Fiber:

Standard single-mode fiber (SMF-28, etc.) or polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF).

Depending on the application requirements, pigtails or patch cables may be required.

Fixing and Gluing:

After placing the optical fiber into the V-groove, it is secured with low-shrinkage, low-stress UV adhesive or epoxy adhesive.

The gluing process is critical and affects loss and reliability.

End-face Treatment:

The fiber array end faces are ground and polished (PC, UPC, or APC end faces).

Ensure low insertion loss and reflection loss.
